The RE/MAX World Championship is the greatest show in power golf – it’s high-impact, high-adrenaline and highly entertaining. The RE/MAX World Finals are tape-delayed to air each year during the Christmas season on ESPN and ESPN2, and have become a holiday tradition. Last year Michael Hambrick of Pittsburgh, Pa. qualified right here in the Senior Division for the Championship Finals in Mesquite before falling in hotly contested second round.
“We’re excited to be able to donate use of our facility as part of the first-phase qualifying for this hugely popular international charitable event,” said Scott MacDonald of Reserve Run Golf Course. “We’re confident that someone from our area will again make it all the way to the RE/MAX world finals next fall.”
“We have plenty of big hitters here in the Valley,” added Dominic Triveri, 2010 Site Director for RE/MAX, “But we expect to attract long drivers from the Pittsburgh area and from as far away as Toledo, Columbus and Cincinnati as well. So, I think we have a good chance to send someone to the show. I also want to thank Scott [MacDonald] and Bob [Saleman] for graciously offering their great facility for the event. It’ll be exciting and we hope to see a lot of spectators here at Reserve Run to share in the fun. When these hitters get pumped – the ball flies!”
All area golfers are invited to see how they stack up as power hitters.
The 2010 RE/MAX World Championship has Seven Divisions. The Open and Senior Division road to the RE/MAX World Finals begins in the Mahoning Valley with the qualifying competition to be held this year at Reserve Run Golf Course, 625 E. Western Reserve Rd, Poland Ohio. The event tees off sharply Saturday, July 31 at 5:00 p.m. and qualifying will continue until 9:00 p.m. No pre-registration is necessary – just show up ready to “give it your best shot” for a total purse of $450,000 to be awarded the longest drives at the world finals this Fall Oct. 27 thru Nov. 5 at the Mesquite Sports and Event Complex in picturesque Mesquite, Nevada.
Time permitting you may enter multiple times in the same division or even multiple divisions if you qualify for age and sex. Based on total entries, as many as six Open Division hitters will advance from the Mahoning Valley to the Region 1 Championships, later this summer at Oakland Beach Golf Club, Conneaut Lake, PA. To increase your chances to qualify for the RE/MAX World Finals, you may enter as many local qualifiers as you like and even compete in more than one of ten different regions across the country. Local entry fees are $40.00 for six balls, six swings, and six chances for glory.
NOTE: Local and Regional qualifying for the remaining five division ( Super Seniors (50+), Grand Champions (55+), Legends (60+), Masters (65+) and Ladies Divisions) are NOT necessary. A one-time entry fee gives competitors in these five divisions a one-way ticket to the World Finals in Mesquite, Nevada.
“Double Your Pleasure”
Adding to the fun of this year’s local competition will be an on-the-side “Doubles Tournament” which you can enter along with a long driving buddy. The best drives from each team will be totaled and the longest combined drives will win first, second, and third place prizes donated by DICK’S Sporting Goods.
As in preceding years, the proceeds of the Reserve Run Qualifying Event will go to Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley. The Rescue Mission does not receive government or United Way funding, nor do they solicit house to house, in parking lots, or on the streets. They depend on people like us to volunteer their time, money, and goods. You can help by becoming a local sponsor. Call (330) 629-9200 or any RE/MAX Valley Associate to help and learn about the benefits of sponsorship.
“Winning a RE/MAX world title is the dream of every golfer who’s ever swung a driver so hard and fast that he or she came off their feet and out of their shoes,” said Triveri. “Last December, over 10 million fans watched the finals on ESPN. To be able to bring this qualifying event to Youngstown, Ohio is just about as exciting as it gets.”
Nazih Banna, Assistant Site Director added, “But handing a check to the Rescue Mission is what really gets our adrenaline pumping. That’s what this is all about for us.”
